After some missed opportunities in game two and three, my plan was to try for a win against Jackie Andersen. He is an old friend of Peter Heine Nielsen and is said to have been more promising when they were both young talents. Nowadays they are neighbours, speak with the same accent and uses the same kind of words. Their chess is different tough. Jackie does barley know how Chessbase works but compensates this with very creative play. In my preperation I noticed that he didnt like to have his knight on c3 pinned, so I went for the Nimzo-Indian for the first time since I had 1500. I had almost expected 1.c4 Nf6 2.Nc3 e6 3.a3?!, but instead he chose the offbeat 4.Bd2?! Unfourtunately I misplayed the position and had a slightly worse position when he offered a draw. The draw offer was quite a relief since I think I have to play some exact moves to make a draw.
Tomorrow I am facing Kamil Miton, who has won against Ivanchuk and drawn against Anand, Kramnik, Shirov, Karyakin, Bacrot, Eljanov, Gelfand... It will be a tough game, but at least I am glad to see that he mainly seems to play well in good positions. Axel Smith, Skanderborg, October 19th, 2010 |
